How long does a person have to stay married after gaining US Citizenship?

My best friend just got word from her husband who just got sworn in as a citizen 1 week ago, that he no longer wants to be with her and that he is involved with someone else. She had no idea he was probably just using her to gain his citizenship. They have been married for 7 years. Any advice I can give her.How long does a person have to stay married after gaining US Citizenship?
Move on. She got swindled. Probably never loved her and only used her.

He put his time in and is now a citizen. Nothing more can be done.

Sorry. How long does a person have to stay married after gaining US Citizenship?
Doesn't have to stay married. She played the game, and lost. So much for helping someone out with their status. Stupid to marry someone who hasn't sorted out their own status first.
, What the problem they are still married (but separated ) until a divorce is granted. If he goes back and the locks are changed just have witnesses to document that.

Good Luck in Court !
If he's sworn in then he's a citizen. There is no requirement that they stay married for a period of time after the swearing in.
Notify immigration immediately, this is clearly fraud. Your friend should be thankful that the criminal has exposed himself and she should move on with her life free from this slime. Both the soon to be ex, and his new girlfriend could face criminal charges if it can be proved that she knew of the fraud and assisted in it. The slime himself could be spending some time behind bars before being deported.
no advice you can give would be of much help...he can divorce her anytime he wants to....she can thank god however since he got citizenship she will not be held responsible for him financially anymore...
call immigration and see if there is anything they can do.
I heard it was 5 years ask her to call immigration...and to note if he get's in to trouble or breaks a law ...he could still be deported and tell her to seek the proper Attorney one that would deal in these kind of cases
Hmm.

He didn't have to stay married that long, only until his conditional period was past....

EXCEPT that fraud in getting citizenship is always a ground for revoking it.

I don't know whether or not that occurred in this case.

Surely she doesn't still want him around after he left her?
They want to have a divorce. What is wrong with that,

it happens all the time and they feel proud to be free of each other and immediately find a b/g or g/f and it is easy in USA.

If they go after each with attorneys, then the attorneys only makes the money as they will be out of job because of poor attendance and claim compensation and stand in unemployment Que, claim food stamps and exchange it for a pack of bud lights. They have to sell their cars to pay the attorney fees.

I do not advise you to go to attorney, its useless.
He committed fraud. Tell her to alert the authorities.

And this should be a lesson learned for American men and women......do not marry them until they are legal for themselves.
he did con her 7 years i would still have her report him to immig call them or get thier number at 1 800 fed info. exactly 7 years is the law.
Get attorney, if kides involved change locks and put under order. Take care.
Try finding the website for immigration. It is in the phone book under gov. organizations. Poor girl maybe she can have some console knowing that God is all seeing. To her: always consult the Lord of hosts before making a life changing decision
