What about all the gay couples who got married during the short time California did have legal gay marriage?

Are they still considered ';married'; or does this automatically transfer them into the category of ';civil union'; or what? What about all the gay couples who got married during the short time California did have legal gay marriage?
Same sex marriages will no longer be valid or recognized in the state of California upon the passage of Proposition 8.

The title of Proposition 8 is that it ';Eliminates Right of Same-Sex Couples to Marry'; with the language ';Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.'; In their ballot arguments, supporters of Prop. 8 declare it would invalidate all such marriages ';regardless of when or where performed'; - an interpretation that would apply to existing as well as future marriages.

Since the California Constitution would say that only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California, same-sex couples who have been married would find that their marriage is no longer ';valid or recognized'; with that right being eliminated from California law.

Edit%26gt; A lawsuit has now been filed by the American Civil Liberties Union, Lambda Legal, and the National Center for Lesbian Rights that argues that Prop. 8 would change the California Constitution in such fundamental ways - taking important rights away from a minority group - that it amounted to a constitutional revision, which requires approval by the Legislature before being submitted to the voters. What about all the gay couples who got married during the short time California did have legal gay marriage?
It's not for sure yet. I've heard that they may be automatically annulled but I've heard that it may have to be decided by the courts. I think it would be outrageous and unfair to annul the marriages of the thousands of gay couples who got married during the time it was legal. It would be particularly reprehensible since in 1972 California ruled the death penalty unconstitutional. Everyone on death row automatically had their sentences commuted to life with the possibility of parole. This is how Charlie Manson and his followers escaped execution. Later the DP was reinstated but the people who were commuted got to keep their life sentences. I think it would be an obscenity to give death row murderers a pass but to strip same-gender couples who love each other of their once-approved legal rights.
They are still trying to decide on this so no one knows yet. Ellen would be in that category for her marriage to Portia. I am truly saddened. I want to cry almost. It's been bittersweet for me because I am Obama all the way but if Cali had approved gay marriage, this would have been icing on the cake for me. Being ';black'; this has been a tremendous victory but being a lesbian I see we are still going to have to struggle even more to be recognized for simply Being!

Does it really matter about marriage being between a man and a awoman? Why?? Because men have a penis that they can stick in a vagina and create a child? Because of that is that why they are only allowed to marry? It's stupid. That is simply for procreation. I am so sick to my stomach but as Blacks have had to fight for so long to get a Black president, we as gay people are going to have to keep trying til we get there. Someone before us fought for the rights we have now so we will have to keep on supporting eachother and doing it.
Nope:

Marriage is between and MAN and WOMAN.

Who wants their kids exposed to the gay lifestyle?

That's just wrong! Our bodies were created by God to interact with the opposite sex not the same sex. It doesn't take a rocket scientistt to figure that out.
This is a link where you can find that sort of information.

It is a great site and you'll find a lot of political talk, with a gay twist.
They are considered 'Married';

but legal differences will pop up in a few months.
measures passed by popular vote become law when they are enacted

they are not retroactive. anyone married before now will still be married
I would say their unions are protected by law since they were joined prior to the passing of Prop 8.
