Would Married filing Separatley bring a bigger return?

My husband and I have been married for 3 years. We both have 2 kids from previous marriages and live with them all. My husband is under the assumption that if we file separately we will have a bigger return combined since we would each get the full child tax credits. Is he correct in his belief that after 2 children the child tax credits are reduced, and would we benefit from filing separately?Would Married filing Separatley bring a bigger return?
more money but illegal lol my aunt did it and got caughtWould Married filing Separatley bring a bigger return?
I'd prepare them both ways to see. . . but probably not a benefit to filing separately. The standard deduction for MFS is smaller than MFJ, and of course you both can't claim the same specific deductions such as mortgage interest, property taxes, etc.
The only place there's a limit of two kids is for EIC - and if you file as married filing separately, your only choice other than filing a joint return, you can't get EIC at all.

Since you are married, you can't file as single or as head of household any more.

The child tax credits won't be any higher if you file separately.
You'll get more money if you file jointly. If you are using an online tax site, try the refund as both statuses and see which gets you the most deductions, but when I tried it once married filing jointly was the big winner.
when you file married seperate, you loose out on a lot of tax credits.

filing jointly would benefit for you both, you get more the child tax credit and thats 1000 each kid.

go to www.irs.gov and read the info together.

my husband has an outstanding irs debt and he is charged 95.00 a day in penalties and interest, so its best not to try to cheat the irs, they find out.
