How much does it cost to get married in a catholic church?

I know that I need to go through marriage counseling and all that but I was wondering if it would cost more to get married in a big church or a small one. Do they vary a lot and if so by how much? How much does it cost to get married in a catholic church?
I live in San Jose, CA. I looked into getting married at a small catholic church and their ';donation'; fee was $500. The church was decent, but not to my, or my fiances, liking. We are getting married at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph, and they charge $1,600 plus the Natural Family Planning class $30, and the engaged encounter retreat, which depends if you do the whole weekend (Fri., Sat., %26amp; Sun.- overnight), or the one day thing. We did the whole weekend at San Juan Bautista which was $300 (paid for by a close friend of ours)....

Hope this gives you an idea, but remember, the Silicon Valley is far more expensive than many other areas. How much does it cost to get married in a catholic church?
The size of the church isn't going to be the dictating factor in whether or not they charge you money to get married there. There are big churches that charge money, and small churches that do too. Since you're expected to pay even if it's not mandatory, and if you honestly can't afford to pay I'm sure you can get it waived even if it is mandatory, it's not worth switching your parish registration just to save a bit of money on your wedding.

The course that you need to do (it replaces most of the traditional marriage counselling that couples take) isn't organized on the parish level - it's generally done by several local churches together, so switching parishes won't make any difference in how much it costs you.

If you are able to find a church where the pastor will marry you even thought neither of you is registered there, there will probably be a mandatory fee to get married there (and possibly a wedding coordinator you have to pay, you might not be able to pick your own musicians, etc), so it would almost certainly cost more to get married at a church you don't attend.
It does vary, so you would have to contact each church to find out.

My church is very old and has historic value, so we have a base fee and then some extra fees that are optional. You can get married for $50 there, but if you want candles, you have to pay for our weighted %26amp; stabilized candle holders, brass followers, and slow-burning, dripless beeswax candles, so that's extra. If you want to use the organ, which is very old and rare in this area, you have to pay for one of the approved organists. If you just want to have the priest marry you privately, no big wedding, it's only $10, so really, anybody can afford it.

Also, it is a rule in my diocese that you must marry in the parish that either the bride, the groom, or at least one set of parents is registered in, or one of the diocesan chapels that aren't parishes. You may want to check on that first in your diocese, because it could limit your options.
varies by membership to the parish. unlike some protestant churches - you have to be Catholic and a member in good standing at SOME parish so your pastor can write a letter on your behalf.
?
Your whole life, once your in you never get out, but like a gang really....don't do it.
