Why does he need to adopt her? Isn't it possible for him to love her and care for her without having to lie about who you slept with to conceive her? If it's not possible for him to be able to love and care for her without having to lie to the world about the circumstances surrounding her birth, then he doesn't sound like he'd be very good 'dad' material anyway.
