Can I file my taxes as married filing separately without my spouses social security number?

My spouse lives in another state and we have no contact. I have no way of getting their ss #. What can I do about it?Can I file my taxes as married filing separately without my spouses social security number?
You would not be able to electronically file the return without the SS#.

You could however file the return by mail and enter the name and then enter, UNABLE, in the space for your spouse's SS#.
