I have married a wealthy woman overseas. Can she bring money back to Canada with no tax implications?

I am a Canadian citizen and she is from Costa Rica. She has a seven figure amount that we want to transfer to Canada. What are the tax implications on transferring the funds to Canada, if any? The money was obtained from some family inheritance and sale of property over the past few years.I have married a wealthy woman overseas. Can she bring money back to Canada with no tax implications?
There are no immediate cdn tax implications for her, being a non resident of canada, to bring her money of foreign inheritance and her sale of foreign property, into canada.I have married a wealthy woman overseas. Can she bring money back to Canada with no tax implications?
Just so you know, TE is the only one with the correct answer. You can double check with CRA, but there are no tax implications for her for bringing this amount into Canada. There may be some registration issues when the money is transferred to a Canadian bank, something done to prevent money laundering, but no tax problems.

Note that, since she is the owner of the money, any income from it will be attirbuted to her.

I make no comment on her admissability to Canada herself, of course, although I presume she can move here based on your marriage. I also have no knowledge of any Costa Rican tax or money transfer issues.
No....she can not bring back more then $10,000. Anything over that she will be taxed on even if she were to wire the money back to a Canadian bank. Most banks will also a certain % of money even to wire it back to an international bank. A friend of mine wanted to return from the US back to Scottland were she was from....what a mess!! Good Luck!!
pay up or move to CR
